Lewis, Narnia and Bethlehem
Have you read C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia recently? It is filled with symbolism. Lewis leads his readers on a journey of the imagination while planting seeds of Christian truths. The movie, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe will be released in a week.
Advent is widely celebrated across Christian traditions. Advent is a journey toward Bethlehem. The journey prepares one for the "coming of Christ" at Christmas. The sighting of the Messiah changed the world.
But there are skeptics, is this "Nativity Christmas" a nice story or is it true? What of the Bethlehem journey is more believable than a journey into Narnia? How can we tell the Christian story, which is also filled with symbolism, as real and true?
Advent is a journey of the heart. It is the opening of our minds to new discoveries -to new meaning - to new pathways so as to discover a glimpse--the presence of the Messiah in our own lives. What a gift!
